Wildlife and Natural Reserve of Vendicari

Noto

Vendicari Nature Reserve was established in 1984 by the Region of Sicily and offers three spectacular walking routes to discover the local fauna and flora. The old trap (“Tonnara”), the Swabian Tower (Torre Sveva), the Byzantine church, the pristine beaches and the crystal clear sea where to snorkel surrounded by fish. During the months of migration, in autumn and/or spring and from the specially built huts, you can admire the flamingos and the royal swans, here they take a pause in their migration towards Africa. You can also admire the grey herons, the Cavaliere d’Italia, Sterne and Gazzette all year round. It is also the nesting place of the Caretta Caretta sea turtles, to confirm the importance and environmental protection of the site.
