Siracusa
Syracuse, the ancient capital of Magna Grecia with its Necropolis, is a city located on the Ionian coast of Sicily. It is known for the ruins of antiquity. The central Neapolis Archaeological Park encloses the Roman amphitheatre, the Greek Theatre and the Ear of Dionysius, a cave carved into the limestone in the shape of a human ear. The Paolo Orsi Regional Archaeological Museum exhibits terracotta finds, Roman portraits and Old Testament scenes carved in white marble. Do not miss Ortigia with its enchanting Piazza del Duomo, the Piazza di Archimede, the Maniace castle, the Fonte Arethusa, its colourful market and its magnificent districts.
