Cittadella

The beach of “Cittadella dei Maccari” is located at the extreme southern tip of the Vendicari nature reserve. It can be accessed using the entrance to the reserve or by following one of the roads leading to the sea in the direction of San Lorenzo, more precisely from the Ninth Street. We are in front of the archaeological site of Cittadella, so called precisely because a small city stood here in the Byzantine era of which you can visit the necropolis and the Trigona. In the area you can also see a former Palmento for the production of wine, recently restored which hosts naturalistic and cultural exhibitions in the area. The final part of the beaches is not accessible because it is a place dedicated to the reproduction of the Caretta Caretta sea turtles that nest between this beach and that of San Lorenzo.
